Worlde of Legends™ FRPG & Campaign World

.

What is Worlde of Legends™?
Worlde of Legends™ is a new fantasy role-playing game that is currently under development at Creative Images Publishing. It will be an exciting FRPG which is designed to help you build fantasy adventure characters of heroic
proportions like those you read about in books. It is an attribute based system which does not utilize character classes, but instead focuses on character concepts. Magic using warriors and thieving priests are quite
common occurences.
What is Creative Images Publishing?  What's the difference between Worlde of Legends™ and CIP?
Creative Images Publishing (CIP) is the company which is making the Worlde of Legends™ FRPG. It's kind of like Fruit Loops® is a cereal made and distributed by Kellogg's . Worlde of Legends™ is a gaming product which is made by and will be distributed by CIP when it is complete.
When do you plan to release this product to the public?
That's a very good question that we'd all like to have the answer to. WoL™ is a tremendously huge project that only a few of us (and our gracious volunteer developers team) are working on. If we had to hazard a guess, we'd say that we're about half-way, MAYBE! We can say that it will not be released this year. We'll just to see how it goes, but maybe in the Spring of 2003 if not sooner! Come on now, it's not really that far away. We
promise it will be worth the wait.
Where will I be able to purchase Worlde of Legends™, and how much will it cost?
You will be able to purchase WoL™ right here online at our website, possibly other websites, and possibly your local gaming shop. To be sure they are on our Media Release Announcement List, send us their website and/or phone number and address. To ensure that your local shop carries it, when it does eventually come out, tell them to visit our site; then you and all your gaming friends need to convince them that you will buy a copy of it if they
get it.

As far as how much it will cost? We don't know for sure yet, because we're not yet sure how it's going to be packaged and presented. As soon as we have a better idea, we'll pass it along to you.

What different dice do you use?
4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20, 100 and/or multiples thereof.
Can my character use a sword and cast magic?
Yes. The Worlde of Legends™ FRPG does not use classes and therefore does not have imposed weapon restrictions based on class-type guidelines. You can even cast spells through your weapon (no ncessarily useful, but looks really cool!)
What does "Attribute-based" mean?
It means that there aren't a whole lot of tables for you to reference everytime you need to do something.  Nearly all adventurer statistics are determined by plugging one or more attributes into various formulae.
Why do you use all those formulas instead of charts and tables?
We use formulae for two primary reasons. The first ist that it makes for easier and more continuous game play. Nothing slows down the momentum of a good combat than somebody having to look something up on a chart. The second reason is that Worlde of Legends™ bases most of a character's stats on his/her attributes. Given that there are 18 attributes with a wide range of possible scores in each one, it would take a horrendous number of charts and tables to cover all the possibilities for ever adventurer stat.
Do all of those formulae make it more difficult to create a character?
We wouldn't say the formulae makes character creation more difficult, but it does take longer to create a character. WoL™ will provide a character stat generator in Windows application format and in several spreadsheet formats. These will make all those formulae quite simple. Besides, all those formulae mean that you don't have to check a table or chart everytime you turn around (see previous question).
What is a "Point-based Magic System"?
Each adventurer who has majik use as one of his/her abilities, will have a pool of points, which will represent the amount of majikal energy they may access. They may utilize these points (energy) toward causing majikal effects. This pool will be based on several things including their attribute scores, their experience level, and whether majik is a primary or secondary ability. Each majikal effect, depending on the effect itself and the power of the effect will require expenditure of a certain amount of points (energy) in order for the effect to happen. The more energy used, the less the majik user will have available until  he/she takes time to regenerate the energy.
Are spells in WoL™ the same as spells from other games?
WoL™ spells can mimic the effects of spells in most other fantasy based games, however, they are not the same. The entire majik system WoL™ is very different from that found in most other games.

How common/powerful is magic in the WoL™ campaign world?
Majik is incredibly common in WoL™. WoL™ majik, like many other potentially powerful things in RPG's and in the real world, is only as powerful as it's weilder makes it. However, it does have the potential to be a most powerful force in a WoL™ game. It should always be used responsibly (and stop running with those scissors).
What are the differences between the different types of magic in the WoL™ campaign worlde?
That's a very simple question that unfortunately requires a very complicated answer. In short, however, the various types of majik use in WoL™ differ primarily in theory and in fundamental access and manipulation of the various majikal energies floating around the world. For the most part, no one type is largely more powerful than any other type; and they all, for the most part, have the potential to create the same (or similar) effects. For more details, check out our GamePlay >> Majik section. If you want more information than that, you'll just have to wait for the product (can't go giving away *all* our secrets)
Do you have gypsies in the WoL™ campaign worlde? If so, can I play one?
Dictionary.com defines gypsy as: (1.) A member of a nomadic people that arrived in Europe in migrations from northern India around the 14th century, now also living in North America and Australia. Many Gypsy groups have preserved elements of their traditional culture, including an itinerant existence, tribal organization, and the Romany language; (2.)...; (3.) one inclined to a nomadic, unconventional way of life; (4.)...

If you mean gypsies similar in culture and lifestyle to those in definition one above, the answer is "You betcha! We love those guys!" The "Gýnto" are the WoL™ playable race fitting that definition.

If you mean gypsies similar to those in definition three, the answer is, "You Betcha! We love those guys too!" The "Gýnto", the "Bábora", and the "Mohura" are all playable WoL™ cultures which fit that definition..

How powerful are dragons in WoL™?
First of all, they are called Draegos in WoL™. Secondly, that depends. Did you mean feral or domestic draegos? All draegos, especially those in the Do'mes (domestic) family and the Fera (feral) family, are quite powerful. Some of course are more powerful and more dangerous than others, but they each have their own abilities and personalities which give them varying degrees of power. In any case, any adventurer worth being called such, would not want to find himself on the bad side of any draegos that has become angry. Even the tiny ones, can be quite dangerous.
Are there any races with (functional) wings?
Yes. Both the Le'Kel (Sky Elves) and the Aevraikeu (bird-like humanoids) cultures have wings that are very functional, and yes, they are both playable cultures!

What are FRPG's?
F-antasy R-ole P-laying G-ame. For more information about this topic we recommend you check out http://roleplaygames.about.com/.
I'm a newbie to RPG's.  Is Worlde of Legends™ a good place to start?
What a silly question! OF COURSE IT IS!!!!! It requires no previous RPG knowledge and is a great game!
I play other RPG's.  Will a transition to WoL™ be easy?
If you come from a game with lots of role-play where you played heroic characters of legendary proportions, yes. If not, who knows? Guess it all depends on how bright you are. The rules system itself, is fairly easy to adapt to. Learning to role-play heroes is the hard part.
I play other RPG's in LARP (Live-Action Role Play) style.  Will WoL™ LARPing be possible?
WoL™ is designed to be a table top rpg, but I guess it is possible. In all actuality, it will depend more on whether or not individual LARP groups find WoL™ to be compatible with their particular LARP style. Please note that CIP and WoL™ neither encourages nor discourages LARPing.
I have characters that I play in other RPG's.  Is there a way to switch   them to the Worlde of Legends™ system?
Hmmm....We're working on making that a little easier; but it's hard to switch a character that was created on a very closed and rigid system to an adventurer that exists in a very open and flexible system without just retaining the concept of the original character and starting over. In all honesty, starting over is probably  probably your best bet.
Can I use the WoL™ rules in another fantasy game world setting?
You can if you want to; BUT....we're gonna give you a brand new world to play in. Some of the FRPG rules are dependent upon some of the traits of the Worlde of Kaendor, such as time and movement in the rules are affected by a slightly lesser gravity on the planet (this is likely not the case in the world you play in now). With a little adjustment here and there, you should be able to use WoL™ rules in non-WoL™ worlds without much trouble.
