The Worlde of Legends™ universe, called The Vastness, is composed of majikal
energy (this is comparable to our universe being composed of atoms).
There are two major types of majikal energy in The Vastness, referred to
as Dormant Majik and Active Majik and one minor type called Indifferent
Majik. Dormant Majik is the energy which is the basis of all existence.
Literally EVERYTHING is composed of Dormant Majik. Active Majik is also
an energy that floats around in the universe. It is the pool from which
spell casters, majik items, and others draw majikal energy. Indifferent
Majik is the combined weave of Active and Dormant Majik. It is neither
soley Active nor soley Dormant, but an equal combination of both.
There are four different types of spell casting ability in the WoL™ FRPG.
Each has it's own unique way of accessing the majikal weave in order to
create spell effects, but they all pull from the same pool of Active Majik
and they all have the same spell effects available to them. The four types
of casters are:
- Maej
- your typical wizard/sorcerer type who has direct access to majikal energy,
- Prést
- your typical cleric/priest type that we sometimes refer to as Holy Warriors
who accesses majikal energy given him/her by a Divine Power and stored
in a Divine Vessel,
- Maivik
- a psionicist-like mental warrior who indirectly manipulates majikal energy
with the hidden powers of the mind, and
- Reunár
- a new spell casting archetype that uses the power of ancient kaendoran
runes to manipulate majikal energies.
From a gameplay perspective, the WoL™ Majik System will be a point based
system in which a spell caster's power will be determined by both his/her
attributes and experience level. It is also used to determine a caster's
chance of success when casting majikal effects. The majikal success chance
is an optional check which we strongly recommend. It "evens up the score"
a little between the warriors and the spell casters. If weapons combatants
have to make a check to see if their primary function is effective, perhaps
spell casters should also.
Majikal energy points determine how much majikal energy a caster can manipulate
before he/she is completely exhausted by the physical/mental stress. It
also serves as limiter to ensure that a character's majikal power level
is congruent with his/her experience level. We can't have 1st level characters
hurling around 10d20 balls of fire. That's dangerous!
Worlde of Legends™ will ship with many ready-to-use spells, but our magic
system is designed so that each spell caster can (a) customize any spell
they wish to give it their own personal asthetic flare, (b) combine the
effects of more than one spell, and (c) create their own spells easily
and assign point values to them. There will also be details covering how
to convert spells from other systems to the WoL™ system.
